ABSTRACT:

We aimed to highlight a series of training needs for future probation counselors from the NE of Romania and of Moldova, to respond to the necessity of finalizing a national probation model correlated with European and world standards in the field of probation and restorative justice. In both countries, it was highlighted that the profession of probation counselor requires continuous professional training to provide the professional with a bag of transdisciplinary knowledge centered on the assistant professions – social work, psychology – but with a thorough training on the legislative area. It was highlighted the need to know about the specific methodology of working in probation, the social context in which the probation and restorative justice are being implemented, as well as the institutional normative framework for its functioning. Also, research data revealed the importance of familiarizing probation counselors with the main communication techniques, both institutional and interpersonal.
